Family Teacher Mo Zhai

This book tells the story of Mozi's life through the words of Mr. Cao. Mr. Cao was the son of Cao State in the early Warring States Period. After the fall of the country, he defected to Mozi and studied in Mozi for more than 20 years. He personally experienced the most glorious era of the Mohist family - the small courtyard with earthen walls in "short brown clothes and soup of quinoa", the three hundred disciples who "could be made to walk through fire and die without turning around", and the old man who walked for ten days and nights, and his torn clothes were enough to stop Chu from attacking Song. This is a novel with scientific ideas as the main line. The book details the outstanding achievements of the Mohists in geometry ("A circle has one center and the same length"), mechanics ("Force is the reason why punishment is exciting"), optics (small hole imaging, mirror imaging) and other aspects, and integrates these profound principles into daily activities such as collecting water from oranges, making wooden kites, and polishing bronze mirrors. Readers will see what kind of mysteries of heaven and earth are hidden in those rules and circles; what kind of principles of the universe are hidden in those balance beams and carriages. This is a novel about search and growth. Mr. Cao came to Momen with the confusion of losing his country, and experienced a long journey from confusion to certainty, from doubt to understanding. He and Gao Shizi's "backing up wealth and seeking righteousness", his "Taihang policy" with Geng Zhuzhu, and his "parable of a hundred gates" when he fell down his nose, as well as his "three questions and three answers" when he returned to the state of Lu to seek help from Mozi three times, which constitute a spiritual map of the Mozi disciples. Before Mozi died, he handed a decayed wooden kite to Mr. Cao and said: "Although the wooden kite is decayed, its principle is still there." This sentence is not only a portrayal of the Mohist scientific spirit, but also the highlight of the theme of the book - the body is exhausted but the spirit is immortal, and the fuel is exhausted but the fire is passed on.
