In 1975, in Baishazhou, a small town on the Yangtze River, seven-year-old Shen Nianzhou lost his father and his mother remarried and left. Born with a stutter, he was laughed at in class and forgotten in the crowd, like a ship stranded on the shore. But his grandfather used his disabled right hand to teach him to write: "If your mouth is not good, let your pen be sharp." The educated youth teacher gave him his first collection of poems: "The tongue will be knotted, but the soul will not." From the county high school under the kerosene lamp to the university lecture hall in the provincial capital, how should fate continue to be written? He spent thirty years proving that every scar given by fate can become a mark of words.
