Root Years

This novel is set from the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, and shows the life wisdom of "Cai Gen Tan" through the century-old fate of three generations of Lin Yichen's family. Lin Yichen, a frustrated scholar who failed in the imperial examination, went through the border experience, served as an official in the court, retired after success, and finally lived in seclusion to give lectures, completing a spiritual awakening and sublimation.
