This Adventurer Is Far Too Cautious

Many years later, when a history professor at Lane University lectured his students on the Golden Age of the continent of Iris, he said:

“Uther shaped the continent of Iris. Gaia sowed the seeds of life. Anissa kindled the first spark of mortal life. Lady Tyche smiled and brought good fortune to humanity. The night belongs to Nocturna, Mother of Secrets.

“Eros governs the sky and the blazing sun. Namoris commands the storms and sweeps across the oceans. Ariston embodies war and bloodshed. The River Styx stands at the end of death, treating everyone fairly.”

A student raised a hand in confusion. “Professor, haven't you left out one great being?”

“My child, how could I forget our Lord?”

Professor Edward's face flushed as he raised his voice:

“Only our Lord, master of all things in the world, the great being who stands above the gods, said:

“What people should worship is not the gods, but the pioneers who press forward one after another to kindle the first flame. Courage is the song of human life.

“The gods, too, face their twilight. Yet even after the sun has set seven times upon humanity, the flame is still passed on.

“The world belongs to the gods, but it also belongs to the people. In the end, however, it belongs to you.”
