A Lifetime of Yellow Nests

The Huangchao Uprising was the largest and most far-reaching peasant uprising in the late Tang Dynasty. It lasted for ten years and fought in the north and south, accelerating the demise of the Tang Dynasty. Huang Chao was not only a frustrated person under the imperial examination system, but also a representative of the people at the bottom who resisted tyranny; he was both an idealistic revolutionary and a tyrant who fell in trouble. His complexity and contradictions are the epitome of the great changes of that era. Although the uprising failed, the slogan of "equalizing the rich and the poor" had a profound influence and became one of the ideological resources of the peasant uprisings in later generations. Huang Chao's legendary experience also explains from another perspective the Chinese revolutionary logic of "Princes, generals, and ministers should be willing to live together".
