Mom Is Flying on the Twelfth Floor

Lin Xi always thought her mother was a cleaning supervisor at a shopping mall, earning 7,000 yuan a month.

Then she came across a video of someone falling from a building: her mother was hanging outside a twelfth-floor window, and the livestream was still running when her grip slipped.

On the cracked phone, Lin Xi found a Li Fengxia she had never known:

“Phoenix Sis Cleans Windows,” with 620,000 followers and 374 posts, plus a top donor who had ranked first for 90 consecutive days...

And records of monthly transfers worth 4,000 yuan, from her mother’s salary card and overtime pay for cleaning windows at great heights.

Lin Xi crouched outside the emergency room, clutching her mother’s employee badge.

It said: Cleaner. Monthly salary: 3,800 yuan.

This is the story of a daughter getting to know her mother all over again.

Her mother never got to fly.

At forty-six, she simply stood on the twelfth floor and borrowed a gust of wind.
