Journey to the West: The Spoilsport

Chang Yi transmigrates into Journey to the West as Benboerba and awakens the [Journey to the West Plot-Wrecking Heavenly Book].

As long as he derails the Eighty-One Tribulations and prevents Tang Sanzang from obtaining the scriptures, the Heavenly Book will grant him rewards based on how much he changes each tribulation.

Change the course of a tribulation, and receive: the Art of Turning Stone into Gold.

Resolve a tribulation, and receive: the Art of Moving Mountains and Turning Seas.

Resolve a tribulation, make Ao Lie turn against Heaven and resent Guanyin, but leave his fate as the Little White Dragon unchanged, and receive: Ancestral Dragon Essence Blood.

Resolve a tribulation, make the Queen of the Women's Country fall in love with someone else, and receive the Nine-Turn Golden Elixir.

Years later, in the Western Paradise, the Tathagata asks, “Venerable Guanyin, Tang Sanzang and his disciples have been wandering around the Western Ox Continent for decades. The Tang emperor is nearly dead of old age. Why have they still not reached my Spirit Mountain?”

The bodhisattva replies awkwardly, “Your Holiness, Tang Sanzang and his disciples are fated to undergo the Eighty-One Tribulations. They have only passed through seventeen so far, so they are not yet entitled to come to Spirit Mountain.”

Elsewhere,

Zhu Bajie gazes toward Spirit Mountain and starts to lose heart. “Master, Senior Brother, there haven’t been any tribulations today, and there won’t be any tomorrow either. We’re never going to obtain those scriptures. If you ask Old Pig, we might as well split up now, so I can return to Gao Village and find Cuilan.”
