In 2014, I was studying at Lu Xun Literary College. Most of the students in my class were Internet writers, and there were senior students like the "Queen of June". At that time, stories about bosses and sweet pets were popular, and the formula was almost deadlocked - the protagonist was either rich or noble and had his own aura, the villain was obviously bad, and the ending must be a happy ending where good is rewarded with good and evil is rewarded with evil. I tend to be picky, and I really can't stand this kind of sameness. Ordinary people have all kinds of emotions and are full of faults. For those handsome and wealthy protagonists who are at the forefront of the limelight, shouldn't the more attention they receive, the faster their shortcomings will be exposed? The number of celebrities who have fallen out of favor overnight in recent years is the best proof of this. What's more, how can a really bad person write the word "evil" on his face? Doesn't that mean holding up a sign and shouting "Beware of me"? Which of those internationally wanted villains was not a socialite in a suit before being exposed? Who hasn't put on the skin of a "holy warrior" or "philanthropist"? The phrase "evil will be rewarded with evil", to put it bluntly, is just the self-comfort of ordinary people within the established rules. Take the German war criminals of World War II, for example. Some hid in Switzerland on ski vacations, while others fled to Latin America, obtained nationality, and then returned to West Germany to reunite with their families while drinking famous brand red wine. Some people say that they have a bad reputation, but these people don't care about reputation at their core. Not to mention those who committed more heinous crimes and were firmly protected by the rules - such as Leopold II, who tortured three million people in the Congo. The statue of this old villain still stands on the streets of Antwerp; and the colonist Robert Clive, who scraped the ground in the colony and killed countless innocent people, is still touted by some people as a "great adventurer" and "strong conqueror". Although his statue was later removed, the rules never disappeared. They just had a new coat and were still in operation. At that time, I always went to the library of the School of Liberal Arts and found that the books of literary forefathers such as Zhu Ziqing and Cao Yu were curled up and pages were missing. However, those books about ideology, reflection on human nature, and sociology were brand new, and some were even covered with a thin layer of dust. I just love to read these unpopular books. The things in them really made me figure out a lot of tricks. Later, on a whim, I wrote a short story of 20,000 words called "Dark Game". It tells the story of an overseas Chinese engineer who, after experiencing a turmoil overseas, has a profound reflection on the laws of how the world works. Every line is full of neo-colonialism, the tearing of civilization and barbarism, as well as the intrigues of geopolitical games and the right to speak. The manuscript was shown to the classmates. Some people could read it and said it was OK, but it was definitely not suitable for publication. Some people scoffed at it after turning two pages and threw it aside. There is no way, people always only want to see what they want to see and listen to what they want to hear. The teacher also flipped through a few pages and said that this manuscript was much better than those sweet pet novels, but ordinary readers may not be able to accept it - the villain in it is too dark, too hypocritical, and does not follow the formula at all. I replied to him at that time: "Teacher, diamonds are obviously luxury goods. Why are the countries that produce diamonds either at war or in extreme poverty? The UK does not produce copper mines at all, so how can it control the price of copper mines in Africa and Latin America? This is not darkness, this is the naked reality." After listening, the teacher nodded, but sighed and said: "The current writing style is not in line with the mainstream market." I asked again: " Teacher, you see, the bosses written by the students are handsome and rich, and they only have eyes for the heroine. But they don't have to eat, drink, and have sex? They are not worried at all? Once the rich are in trouble, they are much worse than the poor. How can they have time to hang around the heroine all day long and fight to maintain their status? "The teacher was amused by me and handed the manuscript back to me. After all these years, watching the endless happenings in the news, I revised that manuscript over and over again. The protagonist was changed from an overseas Chinese engineer to a mercenary, and scenes of oil disputes and geopolitical competition were added, but they were never released outside the film. Until one time, I was slightly injured and was hospitalized. I was so idle that I turned out the manuscript and continued writing. A classmate came to see me and insisted on reading it. As a result, he held the manuscript and read it all morning. After reading it, he urged me to publish it quickly. I waved my hand at that time - who would be willing to watch something like this that is full of darkness and realistic satire? Later, many classmates came to my house to read the manuscript. I made a rule: if I think it is okay, if I want to take the manuscript out, there is no way - I am such a stingy person. Just like that, this manuscript was quietly circulated in the circle. I don't know who leaked the news. First, it was a bourgeois brother who had been in the military, and then a college student. They were all relatives of friends in the circle, and they came to ask for help. I couldn't save face, so I had to agree. Later, even the boss of two small cleaning companies was found. After he finished reading it, he asked me if he could print a copy to show to his wife, but I still didn't let go. He scolded me: "You are such a sharp stick. You have good things hidden and you are not generous at all." I didn't take these words seriously at the time, until last year, something happened at the stall that shocked me. A "relative" actually took part of the manuscript and started a fire! Fortunately, I already had a backup and quickly made up for the lost content. That afternoon, I sat at my desk and froze for a long time: I told my friends every day that the development of civilization cannot be separated from the promotion of writing, but I hid it myself for fear that the manuscript would be exposed to the light. Isn't this a double standard? Come on, if you have figured it out, just do it! Whether others can see it or not is none of my business. I split the manuscript into two parts. The first part was serialized at a certain point last year, called "Snake Meerkat: The Dark Revelation", and this year I published the second part "The Honey Badger: The Dark Core". Although the recommendation is pitiful, I really don't care anymore. After all, not everyone can accept the protagonist's greatest wish, which is to survive; not everyone can understand how those villains can continue to make trouble under the protection of the rules. Oil, blood diamonds, resource plunder, ideological manipulation, geopolitical games... Not many people are willing to understand these things. No one will understand that when capital, power and geopolitical competition are intertwined, "speaking well" is the sharpest weapon. I just want to write these things down and pass them on. Whether others accept them or not is their business.
