Non-Geography

It tells the story of Zhang Xiaoheng, an ordinary young man who accidentally breaks into an "off-earth" world that is similar to the earth but full of weirdness. The city streets and fireworks here overlap with those of my hometown in my memory, but there are hidden dislocations that are terrifying if you think about it: old freezers that leak warm liquid, curtains with faces embroidered on them late at night, neighbors whose teeth quietly change shapes when they speak... Non-locals are accustomed to these "abnormalities", but only Zhang Xiaoheng, a foreigner, can keenly capture every inconsistent detail. In order to survive in this familiar yet unfamiliar world, he learned to disguise himself as a "qualified ghost story" - collecting bloody buttons, saying good night to empty chairs, and stringing rusty keys into necklaces. As he gradually figured out the "aesthetics of survival" in Feidi, he discovered that every "weird story" here was connected to a forgotten name, and his arrival may be just to awaken those secrets buried in time. In the intertwining of daily life and weirdness, the story describes the struggles and curiosity of strangers, and also contains a gentle inquiry into "normal" and "abnormal".
