Kang, White as Tonight

“White” is the clarity that comes from knowing the ending, the true colors revealed when the disguise is torn away, and the hardest path I chose for myself. Reborn as six-year-old Yang Kang, hidden beneath the finery of “Wanyan Kang,” I get to begin Yang Kang’s fate anew. In my past life, I missed out on my birth father’s tenderness, my brother’s loyalty, my beloved’s unwavering devotion, and even the chance to become a hero. In this life I will learn the most orthodox mystic arts from Qiu Chuji, and offer Mei Chaofeng a chance at redemption. I will take up the blade tempered by Wanyan Honglie, and swear to guard the iron spear in Niujia Village for my mother. Before anyone else can make their moves, my first piece has already been played. I want the red wedding ball to be thrown toward true love, the horsetail whisk to sweep away the gloom, and, beyond the impossible choice between family and country, to forge a third path of my own. Tonight, I take the white pieces and change my fate.
