Immortality: Embers of the Stack

Kael, an orphan from the lower embers, was chosen to become the new body of Eldred, the Last One. A memory transfer occurs, and Carl's body is implanted into Eldred's consciousness. But the transfer is incomplete. Carl's young adult "body memory" and resistance consciousness are not completely cleared, but serve as subconscious "noise" **remains in the new body. "Eldred" found that the new body's behavior patterns were always "inappropriate" and would make some impulsive reactions of mortals. During a secret treatment of "memory adjustment", "Eldred" (living in Carl's body) saw the remaining images of the original Carl's life and the exploitation of Ember. The consciousness of the immortal and the body instinct of the exploited begin to compete for control of the body. Eldred began to investigate the origin of the body, which he arrogantly wanted to "tame". He used the authority of the immortal to sneak into low-level areas and trace the remaining memories of his body. "Adjuster" Sera, a "soul engineer" who has doubts about the side effects of immortality technology, was responsible for the memory erasure of Carl's body. Sera discovers that Carl's body is a case of Perfect Purge failure, realizing that it is a technical flaw and the only chance to overturn immortality. She teams up with Carl (Double Consciousness).
