My Body Collector Work Diary

My name is Ed and I work for an outsourced logistics department in the county. When someone dies on a corner, unclaimed, or the authorities don't bother to get to the bottom of it, my van shows up. My job is not to investigate the cause of death, but to clean up the traces - to erase those who have "fallen over the line" from the world as if they never existed. I've seen solitary people rotting to the point of leaving only their "white blankets", dealt with the gelatinous remains in the sewers, and packaged "teaching materials" that had been dismantled down to their parts and sent them to anonymous addresses. I was already numb, until I started to see the same marks over and over in scenes that were supposed to be unrelated: a rough scar of a grain ear, a pinch of red soil that did not belong to the city, and the ghostly code in the internal system - "Return Home Agreement." Now, the instructions I received began to be contradictory. The places I went to always showed signs of being recently disturbed, and my walkie-talkie occasionally received the sound of breathing coming from an encrypted channel, as if coming from a deep well. I began to suspect that what I was cleaning was not a lonely death, but the end of a vast supply chain. They thought I was just a sweeper, but when you sweep up enough secrets, you become the secret that needs to be swept away. This is my work log.
