The Infant Spirit’s Tribulation

Synopsis of The Infant Spirit's Calamity Powerful figures in the capital die one after another, with baby clothes lodged in their skeletal throats. Paper infants drift through the streets at midnight, their cries gnawing at the soul. This isn't infant spirits claiming lives. It's the karmic backlash of the living borrowing infant souls to prolong their own. Chen Jiu, the last heir of the Soul-Tamers, was born able to see ghostly infants. But he bears the Curse of a Hundred Infants and won't live past twenty-five. The truth behind his sect's destruction lies in the surviving pages of the Soul-Taming Scroll. The only one who can break his curse is A Chou, a vicious infant spirit whose soul was refined three hundred years ago. The two form a symbiotic pact. Chen Jiu borrows the infant spirit's power to hunt those who prolong their lives, while the spirit relies on his body to escape the burning of the Soul-Devouring Prison. But when an alliance of life-prolongers emerges and State Preceptor Zhao Xuanzhen, a half-human, half-ghost body-snatcher possessed by an infant spirit, lays a Soul Formation Array of Eternal Life, the secret of Chen Jiu's biological father sacrificing his younger brother to extend his own life comes to light. Only then does Chen Jiu realize: Soul-taming means feeding ghosts with your own body. Prolonging life means digging your own grave. And the bond between him and A Chou was never about saving each other. It is the ultimate gamble that could upset the balance of the Three Realms. “I'm the one who let your master go. Your little brother's soul is with me.” A Chou's childish voice was sweet, but an undying soul-flame burned in his eyes, alight for three hundred years. As the boundary between the living and the dead blurs, and those seeking longer lives join forces with vicious infant spirits, should Chen Jiu raise the Soul-Taming Bell to suppress all beings, or join hands with the infant spirit and overthrow this man-eating dark order?
