This book is set in Majia'ao, deep in the Weibei drought plateau in Guanzhong, Shaanxi Province, and focuses on the 35-year love tragedy between ordinary farmers Ma Weiguo and Li Fang. During the wheat harvest season in 1990, the two fell in love for the first time and met in a red clay field. Their young love quietly grew while working together and helping each other, but they were blocked by reality due to the disparity in family backgrounds and disputes over the betrothal gift. Subsequently, the wave of market economy swept across the countryside, and Ma Wei went to work abroad to find a way out. Li Fang was forced to marry into a wealthy family in a neighboring village. The two struggled in the urban and rural wanderings with daily necessities, but they always cared about each other. As time goes by, the countryside has gone through tax reform, abolition of agricultural taxes, urbanization waves, rural revitalization and other changes of the times. Dirt roads have turned into asphalt roads, cave dwellings have turned into brick houses, and letters have turned into WeChat. The appearance of the village and the lives of the villagers in Majia'ao have been turned upside down. Their families have also experienced the ups and downs of the times. They once took the opportunity of returning home to reunite briefly, trying to regain their old relationship, but they were repeatedly hindered by reality - the gap between urban and rural areas, children's ties, family responsibilities, and illness. Finally, in the late autumn of 2025, as Majia'ao gradually became hollowed out against the background of rural shrinkage, Li Fang passed away due to illness. Ma Weiguo guarded the empty village and the memories of the two of them, and died alone in the cold wind on the plateau. The novel takes the love tragedy of the two as the core and connects the vicissitudes of Guanzhong's rural areas over the past 35 years. Through regional elements such as plateaus, cave dwellings, wheat harvests, and wedding customs, it delicately depicts the persistence and helplessness of farmers in the tide of the times, and composes a rural elegy full of fireworks and a sense of fate.
