The Urban Legend Company: I Made the Horrors Break Down

A former star employee at a major tech company gets lucky and lands a job at a bizarre firm. The workday runs from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and the business is generating power by scaring people. His colleagues all use the names of notorious figures from ghost stories. Lu Li is terrified. The way they look at him is like he’s an all-you-can-eat buffet. Luckily, the company has a rule: No eating your coworkers! The bad news is that performance reviews are coming up. Any employee who fails to meet their KPI will become the main course at the company dinner. To stay alive, Lu Li decides to bring “wolf culture” into the workplace! “Society is getting more repressive, and humans are getting more twisted. Traditional scares can’t meet our targets anymore!” “We need to address users’ pain points, get to the heart of the matter, develop differentiated solutions, and crush the competition with a lower-dimensional approach! Now, let’s align on the level of granularity!” Pointing at the PowerPoint, Lu Li lectures the ghosts below: “If you still can’t make them cry, you’ll be doing a postmortem on your proposals! Everyone write a 500-word reflection after the meeting!” The ghosts tremble. “This is terrifying!” A year later, Sadako, dressed in a black business suit and glasses with gold frames, walks into the office carrying a stack of documents. “Mr. Lu, here’s the company’s financial report for last quarter. Our performance is up 500%! Satan is sending someone over this afternoon to learn from your best practices.”
