Hong Kong Films: I Never Wanted to Be the Boss

After transmigrating into a parallel Hong Kong crime-drama world, Lu Wensheng became a Blue Lantern under Long Gen of Wo Hop To.

Fortunately, he had an Achievement System to back him up. From the start, he received a million in startup capital. As long as he ran a business, the wages he paid out each month could be converted into Achievement Points.

Achievement Points could then be used to redeem items from the System’s shop.

Lu Wensheng believed that a humble background was nothing to be ashamed of, and that status didn’t matter. All he wanted was to make money.

From knockoff product blueprints to investigations into underworld connections, and on to construction project proposals...

As his business grew, the System shop leveled up. In the end, even complete production plans for home appliances and digital devices became available!

At the same time, Lu Wensheng noticed that Fat Deng, Wo Hop To’s retired kingpin, was gradually changing his attitude toward him.

“He’s just some youngster who wants to make a name for himself.”

“That punk is using the society’s name to do business but won’t help the society out of a jam. He needs to be taught a lesson.

But he’s no more than a minor nuisance, nothing to worry about!”

“This guy is too sharp, and he has no respect for his elders. He’s made a fortune off the society, but won’t put up the money or manpower to take Tsim Sha Tsui!

Ah Lok, take care of him, and the next chairman is yours!”

Only after Lam Wai Lok got utterly humiliated and went to Fat Deng to complain did Fat Deng finally lose his composure.

“Ah Lok, it’s not that I don’t back you. A while ago, an officer from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau came to have tea with me in person. He said Lu Wensheng is the only one who can lead Wo Hop To.

If I don’t back him, the police will lock me up and leave me to rot. You can’t beat Lu Wensheng.

Give it up. If Mr. Lu gives the word now, we’re both finished!”

Lu Wensheng: “I really never wanted to be the chairman...”
