There’s a Ghost on My Back

Ghosts possess the weak; Buddha lets the good suffer. Burning incense to invite the gods may also attract ghosts: you may summon a god, only for a ghost to come instead. Keep to yourself and don’t meddle in other people’s affairs.

If you’re physically frail, it’s best not to spend too long in a temple. The world has long treated the weak like ghosts. I once spent a few hours in a temple without thinking much of it. Ever since, something uncanny has seemed to have me in its sights, and I can’t escape.

There must be people around you whose behavior is especially strange. Have you ever paid close attention to whether they’re human or ghost? Or have you ever felt that some of your memories seem strangely unfamiliar, as though the people in them, and perhaps even you, aren’t the same as they are now?

A series of terrifying experiences, and in the end, an escape from certain death.
