The Ruins of the Future: 3024

Lin Wang gazed through the porthole at the boundless depths of space. He had no idea what the future held, but he was always dreaming. What if his genes broke through their limits one day, turning him into a "Gene Breakthrough" with superhuman strength? What if he suddenly became rich enough to replace his body with brand-new cybernetic limbs, then won the cheers and cash of the entire solar system in a zero-gravity fighting arena? Maybe he would take command of a space battleship, able to dim the stars with a single order! He would don a suit of powered armor and battle his way across the cosmos! He imagined piloting a mountain-sized mech, crushing enemy lines and their pride with every step! And when he was finally tired and sleepy, he could return to a luxurious space station with artificial sunlight and waterfalls, sip a glass of red wine, and gaze blankly through a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the entire orbital ring. Instead of being stuck to the cold porthole of a cargo ship that took years to cross the solar system, daydreaming and sighing over his dead-end job. In the 31st century, humanity still knew nothing of the worlds beyond the solar system. But after a thousand years of development, conflict within the solar system had reached a fever pitch.
