Grand Tutor Cai

When people transmigrate, they either become emperors or famous ministers. At worst, they end up as respectable farmers.

But what kind of luck is it to transmigrate as the son of Cai Jing, a notorious traitor, and be doomed to die when the reckoning comes?

Sure, if you don’t mind being punished twenty years from now, you can enjoy more than two decades of wealth and glory.

But Cai You can’t. He has nightmares every night.

So he has to save himself!

Cai You calculates every move and plans for every contingency, treading carefully through the treacherous court of Emperor Huizong.

Many years later, he has acquired a host of identities:

The savior of the Great Song dynasty, the mirror image of Emperor Huizong, the gravedigger of the powerful minister Cai Jing, the architect of a new East Asian order in the twelfth century.

The iron-fisted ruler who controlled the Bureau of Military Affairs for twenty years, the shared nightmare of the reformists and conservatives, the one who saw off Empress Dowager Liang of Western Xia, the harbinger of doom for Emperor Tianzuo of Liao.

The eternal nightmare of Wanyan Aguda, the liberator of the Sixteen Prefectures of Youyun, the one who extinguished a century of fortune for the Jin dynasty, the benefactor of Yue Wumu.

The executor of Wang Anshi’s unfinished dream, the master of Shen Kuo’s scientific legacy, the champion of movable-type printing, the founding grandmaster of the firearms age.

The ender of the era of the Six Bandits, the abolisher of the Flower-Stone Tribute, the liberator of the animals in Genyue’s zoo, the banner that never fell atop Bianjing’s walls.

The father who rebuilt the Great Song navy, the namer of the islands of the South Seas, the pioneer of the spice routes, the arbiter of Goryeo and Japan…

Of course, the title by which he is most widely known is still Grand Preceptor Cai!

Oh, as for Cai Jing, the Grand Preceptor Cai… he doesn’t count. There is only one Grand Preceptor Cai in the Great Song!
