Moonlight in Chinatown

It tells the story of three generations of Chinese descent, Amin's Chinese medicine shop "Xinglin Tang", Malay aunt Hatima's "Coconut Cake Shop", and Indian uncle Raj's "Spice House" in the Chinatown neighborhood of Singapore. Due to a demolition order, their ancestral businesses are facing the crisis of disappearing. Cultural differences once made the road to joint self-rescue full of thorns: Hatimah was worried that the ingredients of Chinese medicine did not meet halal standards, and Raj questioned that the "slow conditioning" of Chinese medicine was not as effective as spices. Inspired by the handwritten note of "cultural symbiosis" in his ancestor's wooden box, Amin rushed to apply for halal herbal certification, and experimented with turmeric and astragalus facial masks with Raj, gradually eliminating the barriers. The three finally joined forces to create a "cross-cultural health market": the warm-up combination of health tea and coconut cake, and the skin care innovation of turmeric and astragalus facial masks, which attracted many tourists. On a rainy day, the scene of three shopkeepers and customers helping each other to set up tents made the market an epitome of community warmth. The success of the market attracted the attention of Lianhe Zaobao. After an inspection, the Singapore Heritage Committee listed the three stores as "multicultural landmarks" for permanent preservation. Since then, the three have launched a monthly cultural salon to share the commonality between Chinese medicine and Malay herbal medicine, and the wisdom of compatibility between spices and Chinese medicine. Under the moonlight in Chinatown, people of different skin colors sit around and enjoy refreshments. The warmth of cultural integration flows quietly here, becoming a beautiful footnote to the symbiosis of contemporary diverse society.
