Landmark Festival: New God List

When the thousand-year term of being a god in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties expired, Wen Zhong, Zhao Gongming and other old gods followed the destiny and ascended to the Hongmeng Tao realm, leaving three hundred and sixty-five righteous gods vacant. From the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the wars and disputes, the integration of Yi and Xia, and the emergence of Buddhism and Taoism, resulted in the imbalance of merits and virtues in the three realms, the chaos of the underworld, the fragmentation of beliefs, and the disconnection between humans and gods. Sima Chengzhen, the Taoist master of the Tang Dynasty, received a dream from the Sanqing Dynasty and obtained the divine whip and the map of the God-conferring Platform inherited by Jiang Ziya. He went down the mountain to confer the God on the order of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. Using the Map of the Palaces of Heaven and Earth as the outline, he traversed the ten major caves and thirty-six small caves to select candidates who had both the merits of benefiting the world and the foundation of their roots. From Jiangdong's subjugation of Wu Zixu's spiritual thoughts, to Maoshan's reconciliation of Buddhist and Taoist disputes and the canonization of Guan Yu as the Jialan Subduing Demon God, to Lingnan's suppression of evil gods and the establishment of the king of the three mountains, all the way to resisting the intrusion of the "Xuanyin Sect", the remnant of the Jie sect. In the end, a grand ceremony for the conferment of gods was held in Tiantai Mountain. Each of the eight new gods was bound to a core regional landmark, taking into account the balance of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and completing the handover of the old gods. This conferment of gods not only stabilized the order of the three realms, but also promoted the in-depth integration of Buddhism and Taoism, laying the foundation of theocracy for the prosperous Kaiyuan era.
