The Sadness Storage Box: Don't Look Back

At his father’s funeral, Lin Che receives a black box etched with the pattern of a locust tree, left behind by Lin Wenye. This keepsake, carrying a promise from his childhood that was never fulfilled, hides a strange passage into memory. As the distant son of a “great man,” he never understood his father. Now the box is his only key. Upon entering the space of memories, he watches his father go from a husband awkwardly knitting a scarf to a scientist driven mad by his efforts to cure Lin Che’s mother, who has Alzheimer’s, and pay a terrible price for tampering with forbidden knowledge. A charred notebook, Uncle Chen’s warnings, and his mother’s contaminated keepsakes gradually piece together the truth: the box is a fragment of a higher-dimensional being. Using himself as an anchor and immense sorrow as fuel, his father fixed the “possible future” in which his mother is healthy amid the rushing current of time. When a gate of light shines from memory into reality, three paths appear: journey to his mother’s happy future, reunite with the true consciousness of his father, or confront “It,” the source of everything. Bearing love and a final charge that transcend life and death, Lin Che stands at a crossroads. His quest for the truth becomes a journey of redemption about grief, sacrifice, and “don’t look back.”
