Jie Jie

"Jie Jie" takes the rise and fall of the Zhao Dynasty (319-352) after the Sixteen Kingdoms period as the historical background, and through the growth epic of Shi Jie, a boy from the Jie tribe, it shows a picture of a troubled world intertwined with blood and civilization. The story begins with Shi Jie's counterattack from slave to emperor, and ends with his profound reflection on power and human nature, which is both faithful to the historical context and gives him a new era of thinking. The novel is intertwined through four main lines: Zhao's entrepreneurial history after the establishment of Shi Le, Fo Tucheng's way of resolving national conflicts through Buddhism, Ran Min's national hatred and revenge, and Murong Xianbei's rise and checks and balances. While expressing the complexity of history, it profoundly reveals the laws of human social evolution - the dialectical relationship between civilization and barbarism, echoing the need for the Chinese nation to have a bodhisattva-like heart that embraces the world, but also needs thunderbolt means to maintain its own security in the process of its rise.
