The story is based on the childhood experience of Ma Lu, a child in rural Henan, telling his fantastic journey from the countryside to the town to the ocean he yearned for and back. Due to conflicts in his own family, he gradually turned into a child who often hid in the cracks. He began to be cowardly and fearful, and his heart began to change slowly, and his journey also came to an abrupt end. On the way back, he felt the love from his mother, but it was no longer the kind of love that was within reach. He learned to cherish it and even feel panic sometimes.
