Adventures in Beipiao

Starting from the green mountains and green waters of Yunnan with her old guitar, Lin Xia put her "singer dream" in her backpack and went to Beijing alone. He originally thought that the neon city was a dream stage, but he ran into reality head-on - a partitioned house with a monthly rent of 500 yuan outside the Fifth Ring Road, which was so cramped that he could only curl up next to his guitar. Oil smoke and the roar of the subway became the first background of Beidiao.​ He originally wanted to find a way out through music, but he trusted the "talent scout" and was tricked into doing a free group performance at the Huairou Film and Television Base. Under the scorching sun in midsummer, I was wrapped in thick costumes and used as a blurred background. I didn't earn a penny for a month and my savings were almost empty. While the director scolded and the extras complained, Lin Xia rubbed the thin rust on the guitar strings and understood the sourness of chasing dreams.​ Unwilling to give up, he fled back to the city and restarted: he used his spare money to find an apartment to submit his resume, worked as an administrator in an office building during the day, and typed reports instead of chords with his fingertips; at night, he went to a bar to sing and sang original songs in the hustle and bustle, and the scattered cheers turned into a glimmer of light. In order to let the melody be heard, he scrimped and saved money, and found "people in the circle" to pay to record the demo. Looking at the beating sound waves in the recording studio, Lin Xia understood that drifting to Beijing was never a smooth journey, and every persistence paved the way for her dreams.​ This is Lin Xia's story of drifting to the north: struggling between rent, work and music love, stumbling in confusion, but always holding on to the old guitar and guarding the fire in her heart. One day, the melody of this Yunnan boy will pass through the smoke of Beijing fireworks and ring clearly in the night sky.
