Warm Wine to Cut Off My Old Fate

Only when the blade pierced the back of his neck did Guan Yu see the ambusher’s face: Wu general Ma Zhong. His final thought was not the disgrace of losing Maicheng, but the grief-stricken face of his elder brother, Liu Bei. When he opened his eyes again, a steaming cup of wine was being thrust into his hand. Cao Cao’s voice rang through the military tent: “The wine is still warm. It’ll steel your resolve!” As the eighteen allied lords jeered, Guan Yu tightened his grip on the cup. Memories of his past life surged back: the tripwire that felled his Red Hare, Lü Meng’s crossing of the river in white, Mi Fang surrendering the city... He looked at Hua Xiong, who had just volunteered to fight, and suddenly poured the warm wine onto the ground. “Pour the wine. I’ll be right back.” This time, he strode out of the tent with his blade in hand, his gaze passing over Hua Xiong to fix on the silent, white-robed young officer behind Gongsun Zan.
