The Trial of Isabella

The Trial of Isabella will take you to a manor from the late Middle Ages or early Renaissance, where high walls and grand halls stand beside a thornwood shrouded in ancient legends. The story begins on a cold morning, when the manor’s woodcutter discovers the body of Sir Arthur Gray deep in the forest. His sudden death is like a stone thrown into a lake, stirring the currents beneath its calm surface.

As the investigation unfolds, one character after another steps into the spotlight: Locke, the “Shadow,” swiftly arrested and claiming to be a “noble thief,” though surrounded by suspicious circumstances; Lady Isabella, Sir Arthur’s wife, whose stifling marriage and longing for freedom make her the tragedy’s most complex victim; Father Fraser, whose “divine revelations” and testimony seem to obscure the truth rather than reveal it; and the forest wardens, dutiful yet steeped in class prejudice.

You will follow the woodcutter Bertram’s uneasy steps and feel the helplessness and fear of common folk in the face of power; listen to Locke’s seemingly righteous yet deeply devious defense; and experience Lady Isabella’s buried despair and inner struggle. Each person’s testimony is like a piece of a puzzle, revealing part of the truth while concealing even more.

The Trial of Isabella is not merely a murder mystery. It is also a profound examination of justice, lies, power, and human nature.
