The Heartlock: My Fantastic College Story

If it weren’t for that misunderstanding by the lake, if it weren’t for that case of mistaken identity, if we hadn’t been trapped on the mountaintop, we never could have met and come to know each other. If it weren’t for that matching lock, perhaps we wouldn’t have broken up either. That’s how our story went.

We first met beside a foul lake whose water hadn’t been changed in about thirty years, and our time knowing each other ended in a bone restaurant filled with a peculiar aroma. It all happened by chance. To me, it was like a dream. Sometimes, fate is just like that.

Now I’ve come alone to this seaside city, and I really have found that lock. So what? The two locks are fastened together, listening to the sound of the sea. The brass bodies are covered in green patina, yet they remain locked so tightly. Perhaps they’re bearing witness to the lovers’ vows of eternal devotion. In that moment, I suddenly feel like nothing more than a passerby.
