A Life of Improvisation

Liu Juemin, an air traffic controller in Tianjin born into a family of civil aviation professionals, has loved crosstalk since childhood and dreams of quitting his job to become a performer. His father, Liu Jie, an airline executive, firmly opposes the idea, leaving the two at odds.

Troubled and frustrated, Liu Juemin flies to Haikou to pour his heart out to his best buddy, Jason. Dead drunk, he accidentally wanders into the flight attendant Su Haixin’s room, setting off a scandal.

The misunderstanding soon blows over, but Liu Juemin is deeply captivated by the beautiful Su Haixin and goes to great lengths to pursue her.

From that night in Haikou onward, crosstalk prodigy Liu Juemin is swept into one unexpected twist after another. Hope and reversals arrive in equal measure, while surprises and shocks go hand in hand, as he struggles with the double bind of work and love.

In the end, with help from his best friends Jason and Ding Xiao, the resolute Liu Juemin lives out an inspirational, real-life version of “The Brothers Who Brave Every Obstacle.” He trades his uniform for a traditional performer’s robe, wins the woman he loves, and gets everything he wanted.

As the saying goes: Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Burn your boats, and God favors the fool. Those who endure hardship will be rewarded: Lie on brushwood and taste gall, and you can have both career and love.
