Personal perversions have long been widespread, and the more depraved and vulgar people are in private, the more loudly they proclaim their public adherence to ethics and morality. In front of others, they go to great lengths to make every action look respectable. Even though everyone taking part in this performance knows perfectly well that I'm fake, that the people I see are fake, and that those people know I'm fake too, we still smile knowingly, offer praise, wave or raise our hands in greeting, and join in condemning the very barbaric acts we ourselves commit.
