Clouds Drift at Ease, While Water Flows Free

Shuiyue has watched over Yun Cuo, a century-old traditional Minnan courtyard home, for one reason: to wait for Yun Ruogu, the only son of her former employer, to return, inherit the family estate, and fulfill his last wish. Yun Ruogu, who has been away for ten years, comes back not to inherit his father’s estate, but to reclaim Yun Cuo. But an additional clause in the will prevents him from inheriting it as planned. They disagree over the inheritance, leading to many misunderstandings and conflicts. As they work through their problems, they gradually come to understand one another and clear up their misunderstandings. After ten years studying abroad, Yun Ruogu gradually falls in love with his hometown and its rich traditional culture under Shuiyue’s influence. In the end, the two join forces, combining their strengths to promote traditional culture, especially intangible heritage such as the You Shen folk ritual, shadow puppetry, and Minnan snacks. They also find ways to preserve traditional Minnan architecture, develop rural resources, raise villagers’ incomes, keep elderly people and children from being left behind, and encourage young people to return home, opening up a new path to prosperity. With shared cultural confidence and spiritual beliefs, they bring traditional heritage and prosperity for all together, while balancing local resource conservation with development and making use of new technologies and sales channels. Through the joint efforts of Shuiyue, Yun Ruogu, and the villagers, Qing Shan Village transforms from an isolated old village into a place where everyone can prosper.
