The Great Houses of Southern Fujian

The Minnan Grand Mansion, a work supported by the China Writers Association’s 2025 Annual Program Shuiyue guards Yun Mansion, a century-old Minnan grand residence, waiting for Yun Ruogu, the sole son of the family’s master, to return and inherit the family estate, fulfilling his father’s final wish. But Yun Ruogu, who has returned from studying abroad, has no desire to inherit his father’s estate. He only wants to reclaim Yun Mansion. Unexpected conditions in the will prevent him from inheriting it as planned. The two disagree over the inheritance, leading to misunderstandings and conflict. As they work to resolve their problems, they gradually come to understand one another and clear up their misunderstandings. After spending ten years abroad, Yun Ruogu gradually falls in love with his hometown and its rich traditional culture, thanks to Shuiyue’s influence. In the end, the two join forces, combining their strengths to promote traditional culture, especially intangible cultural heritage such as the You Shen folk procession, shadow puppetry, and Minnan snacks. They also seek ways to preserve traditional Minnan architecture, develop rural resources, raise villagers’ incomes, ensure that the elderly and children are no longer left behind, and encourage young people to return home. Together, they forge a new path to prosperity. With their shared cultural confidence and spiritual beliefs, their efforts to pass on traditional culture complementing their pursuit of prosperity for all, and the protection and development of local resources combined with new technology and expanded sales channels, Shuiyue, Yun Ruogu, and the villagers work together to lead Qingyun Village from an isolated old settlement onto a broad road to prosperity for everyone.
