Misty Harbor

Lin Jingwu has always done exactly as her mother says. When her mother tells her to make a living with her looks, she heads alone to Hong Kong, where the rich are everywhere, to strike it big. On her first night in Hong Kong, she falls into danger and nearly loses her virtue. Jiang Jinye saves her. Terrified, she clutches the man’s suit and demands that he take responsibility for her, all the way. Jiang Jinye stands in the shadows, his handsome face devoid of warmth. “What do you want me to do?” With nowhere else to turn, Lin Jingwu pushes her luck, trembling. “It’s late, and I have nowhere to go tonight.” He looks down at her for a long time, then says coolly, “Come with me tonight.” Later, Lin Jingwu learns that the man is no ordinary person. In this world ruled by money, he is at the top of the financial world and has connections on both sides of the law. Her mother instructs her, “You have to stay by his side. Even if you can’t become his wife, being his kept canary is good enough.” So Lin Jingwu becomes a puppet on a string. In high heels, she walks through the rain all night to his mansion on the summit of Pingding Mountain, using her extraordinary beauty to become his secret lover. Every day, she calls him “Mr. Jiang” in a sweet, coquettish voice. “Mr. Jiang, I’m learning Cantonese. Soon you won’t have to accommodate me when we talk.” He asks, “How far have you gotten?” Lin Jingwu stammers, “I’ve learned… I really like you.” He says coolly, “Miss Lin, I don’t like forcing anyone.” Later on, Lin Jingwu realizes the act has become real. Hearing that Mr. Jiang has an old flame he still cannot let go of, she no longer wants to be a caged oriole. Just after she leaves Hong Kong, she hears the screech of brakes. The handsome, defiant man slowly raises his head and wipes a diamond ring in his hand. “Miss Lin, why didn’t you ever ask me what my old flame’s name was?”
