After My Brother and I Both Jumped from the Sacrificial Altar, the Empress and Princess Went Mad

In the year of the great calamity, the master prophesied that every member of the Jiang clan was destined by Heaven and must marry into the imperial family. They had to cultivate a pure-yang inner core so their wives could bear children chosen by Heaven, bringing blessings to the people. My older brother married the lovestruck empress and became the ruler of the dynasty, while I married a princess who was deeply devoted to me and became her consort. For five years after our weddings, my brother and I diligently devoted ourselves to cultivation, yet neither of us could get our wives pregnant. The people blamed us for it. Determined to demand justice, my brother and I risked our lives by climbing onto the sacrificial altar reserved for those chosen by Heaven, where we exposed our wives’ crimes. The empress and princess rushed after us themselves, heedless of the danger. The empress turned pale and urged my brother to put the people first, as befitted a ruler. The princess, eyes red, reached out to me and said she could explain everything once we got home. My brother and I exchanged a smile. Neither of us wanted to hear another word from them. With a clap of thunder, we leaped from the altar in front of everyone. Only then did the people realize that those chosen by Heaven had decided to abandon this family!
