What Kind of Tactic Is That?

“Everyone, though an individual’s strength may be formidable in this world, it is ultimately limited. Conflicts between nations, races, and planes must, in the end, use war as their language of diplomacy.

And war, at its core, is the art of deploying troops.

Spearmen, swordsmen, archers, cavalry, chariots, musketeers, cannons, monsters, giant beasts, aerial units: each has its own role and place.

Melee forces hold the line, ranged troops focus fire on key targets, cavalry and chariots harass and charge, artillery blankets the field for cover, monsters and giant beasts tear open the formation, and aerial units soar over barriers that cannot be crossed. The interplay of these tactics is a marvel of precision.”

“So, Chief Yuan Yi, what tactics did you use in your famous battle, when you broke the siege of Tianjing and defeated Pamil, the Seven Gods’ champion?”

“Oh, that? She only had a mere 730,000 troops with her at the time. I surrounded them all by myself.”
