Her Alzheimer's Only Flares Up Around Me

For our golden wedding anniversary, we had agreed to take a trip together. While I was in our room getting a few things, my wife suddenly had an Alzheimer’s episode and left on her own. Afraid something might happen to her, I hurried after her to the airport, but a staff member stopped me. He said my ticket had been canceled long ago. My hand, which had been repeatedly dialing my wife’s number, froze.

Not far away, my wife was linking arms affectionately with her first love.

“At last, we can make our youthful dream come true.”

So her Alzheimer’s only acted up when she was with me. She remembered her past with her first love perfectly well, didn’t she?

At last, she answered the phone. I heard her ask in a puzzled voice, “Hello, who is this?”

After a long silence, I replied, “Just a stranger.”
