After Faking Our Deaths with My Best Friend, I Became the Mad Crown Prince’s One True Love

My best friend and I transmigrated into a book together, and we were both bound to a System.

The System told me to win over the deranged, lovesick crown prince, and told her to win over the cold, antisocial general.

We diligently worked on our targets for three years, but the progress bar got stuck at 88% and wouldn’t budge.

Me: I don’t want to win him over. I just want to lie flat.

Best friend: Fake our deaths?

Me: Let’s do it. We’ll both disappear.

We used the points we’d painstakingly saved up over the past few years to fake our deaths and flee to the countryside together, where we started a peaceful life of farming and raising dogs.

Two years later, someone showed up with portraits and captured me and my fishing best friend.

Wait, is fishing illegal now?

“I heard they’re looking for a stand-in for someone’s unrequited love in the capital. We can sell this one to the Crown Prince’s residence for a hundred taels.”

“And sell this one to the Great General’s residence for two hundred taels.”

Me and my best friend: ???

Why is she worth more than me?

After all this time apart, Xie Ming had gone even crazier.

He said he’d break my legs, tie me up with chains, and lock me in a dark cellar.

But then he’d come to my bedside and cry while I slept.

I couldn’t figure it out. What was wrong with the Crown Prince?

My best friend had run into something strange, too. She said Shang Heng planned to sever the tendons in her hands and feet, leaving her bedridden for the rest of her life, unable to go anywhere and forced to depend on him.

Me: And then? Did he really do it?

My best friend rolled her eyes. “Could you try wishing me well for once?”

Shang Heng didn’t cut her tendons. Not only that, he even forced her to confess her love for him.

I looked up at the sky and sighed. “Girl, the System might be broken. These two are definitely head over heels for us.”

Best friend: …I think so too.
