My Private Moonlight

Shi Miao went missing as a child. At nineteen, while working as a musician in a teahouse, she was found and brought home to marry in place of her younger sister. Her playboy fiancé, however, did everything he could to humiliate her. Everyone thought she was easy to bully. They had no idea she was a thorny rose who had fought her way out of a city in chaos, dangerous and impossible to shake off. To avoid her sharp edges, her family sent her away at once. - Few people in Yunzhou can get away with anything, and Bo Jinyan is one of them. Ruthless and vicious, he walked away at the peak of his fame and went to a chaotic city, concealing his identity and living as an idle young master. The day he left, the true daughter of the Shi family returned home. Seeing the young woman holding a pipa, as graceful as jade, he felt a flicker of compassion, a feeling he’d never known before. Shamefully, his heart stirred. So he plotted step by step, helped her get rid of her fiancé, then coaxed her into his cage. Someone who knew his identity warned Shi Miao, “A young master who likes to play with people will only toy with you. Don’t get too attached, and don’t take it too seriously.” Shi Miao plucked the strings, playing a hauntingly beautiful rendition of “The Lament of the Xiang Concubines.” Bo Jinyan sat calmly beneath the stage, slowly removed a dark green jade thumb ring, and tossed it into her arms, lavishly rewarding her with a fortune. She smiled brightly and answered, “Don’t worry.” What she wanted was never a person. How could she ever fall for one? - The chaotic city saw its first snowfall in a hundred years. Artificial snow, worth tens of millions, drifted down to blanket the whole city. They said it was a birthday present from that idle young master of the Bo family to the woman he loved. As snow fell all around them, Shi Miao lifted her delicate neck. The man had used every means at his disposal to make her fall for him. At last, sated, he lowered his head to rest against her neck, his Adam’s apple brushing her flushed collarbone before he gave her a tender, reverent kiss.
