Guarding Montmaraal

Bao Xiaojun, who works as a warehouse guard in his hometown of Xinjiang, is a demobilized noncommissioned officer. After spending eight years in the army, he hopes to look after his parents more often in the future and have a stable, peaceful job. His organization assigns him to the Mengmalar section of the Jinghe-Yining-Khorgos Railway patrol platoon, where he replaces the sick platoon leader, Old Luo. The area lies deep in the Tianshan Mountains, where conditions are harsh. The platoon's eight members come from different ethnic groups, and their inability to communicate easily leads to conflicts and misunderstandings. After Bao Xiaojun arrives, he promotes ethnic unity and quickly becomes one of the group. Because of his outstanding work, his leaders hope he will stay and offer him generous benefits. But there is no network signal here and no other people around. Working here long-term would inevitably mean being unable to care for his parents or maintain a romantic relationship. In the end, how will Bao Xiaojun choose?
