In 2147 AD, due to the unstoppable rise of global sea levels, the three major islands in southern Japan were submerged. But Hokkaido survived because of the different density of seawater and the waterproof dams built by humans. Since then, only Hokkaido and half of Mount Fuji and the tops of a few other small mountains have been left floating in Japan. Seventeen years later, an unprecedented earthquake occurred in Hokkaido, destroying more than 90% of the local buildings. The number of casualties was nearly 100 million. Later generations called it "Death". Disasters also bring good news. After the earthquake, a large crack opened in southern Hokkaido, and people discovered a brand-new material in it - gray ice, so named because its shape resembles ice crystals and appears gray. It is regarded as a new energy source that can replace oil. After people developed gray ice, Hokkaido's reconstruction work and economy developed rapidly, attracting a large number of people from all over the world who wanted to profit from it. So a new country or the largest city in the world was built on these ruins. People gradually forgot its original name and renamed it "New Tokyo".
