Someone Is Standing Outside My Window

Xiao Qu, a woman who lives alone and has been unemployed for over a year, finds empty clothes hangers appearing on her balcony again and again. One day in August, she confirms that someone has stolen her clothes. Even after buying and installing a security camera, her clothes are stolen again in October, and this time she clearly captures the thief’s face. Xiao Qu thinks she’s bound to catch the culprit now, but events take a turn she never saw coming. Everyone connected to the incident keeps hinting that it’s no big deal, just a petty theft involving a tiny amount of money, nothing compared to the damage caused when a pipe burst on the apartment building’s fourth floor... Yet all kinds of signs suggest that the culprit may be someone close to Xiao Qu. While arguing with the property management company, Xiao Qu discovers that the company, supposedly known nationwide for its excellent service, failed to capture the culprit’s movements because its cameras had fallen into disrepair. Yet someone hints that the property management company may be covering for the culprit... The day after the crime, someone who had called her claiming to be a police officer later admits during their conversation that he isn’t a police officer at all, then asks Xiao Qu if she’s disappointed... The people who reach out to Xiao Qu through social media to show concern don’t seem to be complete strangers to her either... Anyone could be a victim, and anyone could be a perpetrator. It feels as if someone has been standing outside my window all along.
