Fiery Obsession

“Help me!” On a freezing night in Rongcheng, An Xin found a ray of light. Huo Jingsheng, the eldest son of the Huo family, was a graceful gentleman and a professor of history at Rong University. He helped An Xin escape a terrible marriage, and out of gratitude, she married him. On the eve of their wedding, he had her sign an agreement: An Xin could end their marriage at any time. An Xin smiled. “Do you think I’ll ever meet someone I like?” Huo Jingsheng asked in return, “Why not?” He gave her confidence and hope, but never gave himself a chance. Only after An Xin learned that he suffered from avoidant attachment disorder did she understand why he was sometimes warm and sometimes cold, why he couldn’t return her feelings, why his words sounded indifferent while his eyes betrayed his restraint. The more he denied his feelings and pulled away, the more determined she became to make him admit he cared for her. This time, she would heal his wounded heart. On the day of their second wedding, Huo Jingsheng, thoroughly put through the wringer by the bridesmaids, faced one final challenge. One of the bridesmaids made the same demand: “Say ‘I love An Xin’ ten times before you can come in.” Huo Jingsheng rubbed his temples, then finally spoke. “I love An Xin. Once is enough.” The bridesmaid said, “No way.” Huo Jingsheng smiled. “I’ll save the other nine for my wife alone.” That night, An Xin heard far more than nine sweet nothings.
