The Old Man of the Moon had just tied the red thread when Ning Xian'er died. Unwilling to give up, he had to tie it again. He had barely picked up his wine flask and taken a couple of sips when Ning Xian'er and Zhao Ji began to fall for each other. Then she died again. The Old Man of the Moon had no choice but to give up on the hopeless Ning Xian'er for the moment and give Zhao Ji a few pointers. But just as things looked set to work out, Zhao Ji died. With the wine going to his head, the Old Man of the Moon refused to believe it was hopeless. He retied the red thread, which had already snapped three times, into a tight knot.
