Dear Artist

Lu Shishi, a PhD in management from A University, considers herself unlike the “third kind of person” in the traditional sense. Beneath her cool exterior lies a passionate heart, curious about everything. She seems to keep everyone at arm’s length, yet sometimes her compassion gets the better of her. Haunted by childhood trauma and the absence of a father’s love, she has complicated feelings about father figures and occasionally has a bit of a father complex. She spends her whole life healing her inner child. At a gathering with friends, she meets Zhou Yan, a man without much formal education but with the same humor, charm, and zest for life. Her interest first turns to his line of work, then to him. Lu Shishi discovers that Zhou Yan has a steadiness and candor she has never encountered before, and gradually grows attached to him. What she does not know is that, behind Zhou Yan’s seemingly frank manner, he is hiding many “secrets” he cannot tell anyone. By chance, Lu Shishi enters his life and slowly unravels those secrets, only to discover that their souls are remarkably alike: both are adrift and alone in a bustling city, and find warmth in each other. Thus begins their marriage, full of bumps in the road yet warm and romantic. As they learn to accommodate each other, they bring out the best in one another and make their experiences of life more complete.
