Ten years ago, after the renowned mask artist Jingchuan Sanjun died, he left behind a valuable detached villa. After returning to his hometown, his only son, Jingchuan Junfu, spent his entire fortune to buy the freedom of Ryoko, a woman who sold liquor. Ryoko died in an explosion at a flour mill, and less than half a month later, Jingchuan Junfu married Chito Momoe. They had a daughter, Jingchuan Yukiko, who was half-deaf and half-blind... When the villa exploded, detective Asai Kazuo and the rescue team arrived to find Yukiko standing downstairs, covered in injuries, staring blankly at the blaze before her and Chito Momoe lying on the ground.
