The Beloved Empress: A Yao-Yuan Romance of Fate

Though they were strangers when they first met, their paths crossed, and after spending time together, they came to understand each other without a word. After they had been apart for several days, she was forced to honor the political-marriage pact and marry Ye Chen. She tried every way she could to use the opportunity to escape along the way, but her plan backfired and landed her in an even deeper mess. Fine, she accepted her fate. She had never met Crown Prince Ye Chen anyway, so she could simply tell him the truth when the time came and call the whole thing off. What she never expected was that the person who shared her feelings would be none other than the Crown Prince of Ye Chen. Nie Xiyan pointed angrily at his nose and demanded, “You lied to me?” The Crown Prince shamelessly replied, “My lady, we’re even. You hid your identity from me too, didn’t you?” She thought the two of them would be each other’s one true love for life. Sadly, she had only been imagining things. After a long journey, his return turned her joy into utter disappointment. She saw with her own eyes the man she treasured marry another woman. She asked him, “If one day you had to choose between power and me, what would you choose?” He fell silent for a long while, then said, “Don’t worry. I will never let that day come.” To her, his words were ultimately laughable. Before the armies of all three forces, she fell into enemy hands. On the city wall, with a sword at her throat, all she could wait for was the arrow that shot straight into her heart, fired by the man who had left her utterly disillusioned. Their trust was gone forever. After ascending the throne, he had changed beyond recognition. With her motherland facing a formidable enemy, she watched as the cold sword pierced the heart of her eldest royal brother. On the verge of collapse, she asked him through trembling lips, “Why would you do this…?” From then on, all she felt for him was hatred.
