During a holiday visit home, Mi Fang was tidying the storeroom when an accident sent the Shan Hai Jing her grandfather had left her tumbling into a basin of water. Then something extraordinary happened: a man named Wushi Xian suddenly appeared and pulled the book from the water. He claimed to be one of the gatekeepers of the Shan Hai Realm and told Mi Fang that this Shan Hai Jing was one of the gates to that realm. The water had blurred many of its characters, weakening the gate and allowing many monsters to escape. And it was all Mi Fang's responsibility.
