The Top Scholar of the Tang Dynasty

In literature, I wrote poetry known throughout the land and works famous for all time, ushered in a new literary style, and became the forefather of parallel prose. In medicine, I mastered acupuncture and medicinal treatments, could see within the body without obstruction, and became a direct inheritor of the Huangdi's Eighty-One Difficulties Classic. In the esoteric arts, I wrote The Elucidation of the Zhouyi, Further Discourse, and The Record of Shakyamuni's Attainment of Buddhahood, becoming a true specialist in Sanskrit. In mathematics, I prepared for the Tang a calendar that would serve it for a thousand years: the Great Tang Millennial Calendar. I also roamed the land with sword in hand, traveling east to Jieshi, south to the crashing waves, west to gaze upon the yellow sands, and north to tread the great passes. All this took just twenty-seven years. Past and present, East and West, every so-called prodigy pales in comparison to me, Wang Zi'an. A man who inspires no envy is mediocre. I've done my best to stay away from officialdom, yet some people still aren't satisfied. A prodigy needs a bit of swagger, doesn't he? I'm a doctor, after all. If this tumor in the Tang can't be cured, then I'll have to cut it out.
