(This book is a practical guide to starting a first business and understanding human nature for young people.)

The Gates of the Great House Behind the City Walls consists of three volumes. This book, the first volume, is the Entrepreneurship arc. Set during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, it tells the story of the pioneering founders of a Pingyao beef family among the Shanxi merchants.

The second volume, The Decline arc, is set during the late Qing and early Republican era. It tells how various external factors led to the decline of the great Shanxi merchant families.

The third volume, The Glory arc, is set against the backdrop of public-private partnerships in the years following the founding of the People's Republic. It tells how, encouraged and supported by the great changes of the times, Pingyao beef strode toward glory.
