Primitive Buddhism did not have the habit of sculpting and painting, and mostly used the Buddha's footprints and Dharma wheels as the objects of worship, and their meaning was more about representation. During the Asoka period, there were more and more Buddhist sculptures, and sculpture representations of various stories were also common. The most famous representative is the Greek Gandhara style. With the global spread of Buddhism, statues and sculptures have integrated local styles in various places and developed their own unique aesthetics. For example, Burmese Buddha statues are mostly made of jade, with a full image; the Thai and Dai areas like to use gold and have the habit of gilding, and the bun on the head of the Buddha statue is pointed; the Tibetan image pays attention to the softness of the lines and the symbolic expression of holding the magical instrument, and the Bodhisattva statues usually have a thin waist and developed Buddha statues appeared in Thangka; the sculptures and paintings in Han Dynasty have made great progress and improvements due to the influence of Buddhism. They have shifted from freehand brushwork to pay more attention to realism, and developed art forms such as Sutra Bian. After the Song and Ming Dynasties, Buddha statues have full and rich faces, longer earlobes, and vivid folds of monks' robes.
